My Expectations and Predictions for the Met Gala | Bags for Breakfast

My Expectations and Predictions for the Met Gala | Bags for Breakfast

The countdown is on for the Met Gala and this is Day 2 of my Met Gala series! I asked you to vote for the next topic and and you guys chose my expectations and predictions for what I am hoping to see at this year's Met!

Sure to be a memorable Met Gala, my expectations and predictions cover everything from the decor, to what I predict or expect to see attendees wear, and classic Chanel elements I would love to see embodied!

Let's get the first prediction out of the way. Rumours of the Kardashians being uninvited have circled and I do believe the rumour is partially true. I do not think it will be a Kardashian family royal flush like last year, and I do believe the majority of the Kardashian sisters will not be returning, but I predict Kendall Jenner will be there. She has been involved in several Chanel haute couture and Fendi shows, and in the May issue of Vogue yet to come out, she will be a featured on the cover alongside other muses throughout Lagerfeld's career. Since Kendall wore a ballgown to the Met last year, I predict a more form fitting look for her this year.

More on these muses of Karl, he made Chanel in the 90s arguably the best era of Chanel. He like other designers had many muses and groups of girls that he consistently worked with throughout his career, and 10 of his muses have been brought together for the cover of the May issue of Vogue, also in tribute of Lagerfeld of course. Naomi Campbell, Shalom Harlow, Devon Aoki, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid are just some of the names who will grace the cover.

My prediction: pearls, florals, namely the camellia, and feathers together, lots of beaded embellishments and ballgowns. I also anticipate a marriage of masculine and feminine energies into one look. I think we will see a lot of designers creating a union between Karl's signature look, and his designs from both Fendi and Chanel. I think the overarching idea will be that a part of him lives in within the designs he created, and I think this will be seen in several different ways.

One thing I would love to see come from the reunion of Karl's models is the 90s supermodels walking the red carpet together representing their golden era. I think that would be an incredible moment.

Next on my list of expectations, who will be handling miss Choupette? Karl Lagerfeld's beloved cat Choupette will be in attendance and I would love to see Naomi Campbell be the one to escort Choupette up the carpet.

I want to see extraordinary tweed looks, and reinterpreting the classic structure of the Chanel suit in a new, and big way. I would love the see a magnificent tweed suit sweeping up the stairs of the Met, and no one could do this better than Thome Browne. I expect him to use the fabric in that kind of interesting way for the carpet.

Let's move on the hosts of the event. Penelope Cruz, iconic Chanel ambassador, is one of the hosts. Penelope wears a ball gown in most of her red carpet looks, and I predict this time will be no different. As a host I assume she will be opening the carpet, and I expect a grand entrance! She wears a lot of black or white, so I don't think she will stray far from her classic colour palette, and I predict something white and with very intricate embellished beading, possibly incorporating into camellias, as she has done before on red carpets. I want to see her in a big ballgown that is bigger than any ballgown she has ever worn!

More on the camellias, I want to see a variety of camellias. I expect to see a look of only camellias in fact, while I can't for certain predict anything, I feel like this one will be a certainty.

On the topic of camellias, the decor of the Met is an entire design of it's own. Raul Àvila, the man behind the most spectacular floral centrepiece installations and the design of the Met steps, I'm sure will be creating the world of the Met this year. I suspect the creation will involve camellia arrangements trailing up the sides of the steps of a black and white carpet. Further, Blake Lively has revealed that she always tries to match the carpet, so if my prediction is correct, then perhaps we can also expect Blake Lively to be in a glorious black and white interpretation of Karl's designs.

I want to see glorious headpieces. I think Chanel hats are iconic and I would love to see a classic Sarah Jessica headpiece, but it like dripping in pearls. Janelle Monae is also someone who wears hats or headpieces in the majority of her looks and I predict she will be wearing a headpiece or hat of sorts. I predict it will be either be tall and statuesque or it will be a hat with an enormous brim that will be adorned from the inside out.

One of the unique things Lagerfeld brought to Chanel was a couture punk rock vibe. I predict this will be incorporated in several looks at the Met. I think Kristen Stewart and perhaps also Willow Smith, both also muses for Karl will embrace this in a big way.

The 18th century followed by the Victorian era was Karl's favourite time period and motifs of the era of Enlightenment and Victorian fashion are woven into his designs. Karl was a revolutionary artist, much like the periods he likes to reinterpret in his craft. I want to see Jenelle Monae do a whole Victorian punk vibe look. I predict she will wear a tuxedo styled looks but with unique redesigned preportions, embracing a masculine style of Chanel with maybe even a top hat.

I don't predict Lily Rose Depp will have an overly dramatic look, because she is so petite I find on her particularly it is easy for a look to overwhelm her, and I think that the level of extravagence that she brings is absolutely the right amount for her. I would personally love to see her wear something with sentimentality, I have in mind her wearing a timeless form gown that Karl previously dressed her mother, Vanessa Paradis in. I think that that would be a beautiful way to pay tribute to Karl.

I want to see someone wear an absolutely glorious veil. If it's a cathedral style veil, even better. I want all the drama. I personally believe any event that goes on around the time of the Met is a pre-cursor to the Gala, and as Sophia Richie's wedding just wrapped up, primarily dressed by Chanel, I predict that we will see a continuation of this at the Met. Sophia had a stunning veil embellished with little crystalized resin water droplets that glistened in the sun and I'd love to see this re reinterpreted for the Gala. I hope that

There is one look in particular that I would love to see because I think it is perfect for the Met, and that is the swimwear bride from the Chanel Spring 2019 Haute Couture Collection. The looks includes a glittering silver sequin swim cap with a lengthy glittering veil. This is the perfect look for the Met and something I think someone like Lady Gaga would do very well. There is another Haute Couture moment from 2003, Linda Evangelista wears a similar swim cap like headpiece in the bridal look of the show and this would also be a variation I would expect to see!

Next onto miss Bella Hadid! Since she is always a Met Gala favourite for me, and my prediction is that something tells me she will choose to go the Fendi route with her tribute to Karl. One of her most memorable runways with Karl was closing the Fendi show at the Trevi fountain in Rome back in 2016, fairly early in her modelling career, which made this moment an even bigger impact. The runway was extra special because it was also Fendi's 90th anniversary. Her look was royal and included an embroidered velvet cape. I would love love love if Bella came out at the Met Gala in a cape that is reminiscent of her Trevi fountain moment, I think that would be a real breathtaking moment.

That wraps up my Met Gala predictions for now but I may do a part two because writing this has been so much fun! Let me know in the comments which points you think I've predicted correctly and what you want to see from the Met Gala!
