The Met Gala is Upon Us! Here's Everything you Need to Know | Bags for Breakfast

The Met Gala is Upon Us! Here's Everything you Need to Know | Bags for Breakfast

The Met Gala is coming up and I could not be more excited. This is my absolute favourite event that I look forward to every single year and have been invested in for as long as I can remember.

Since the first Monday of May is less than a week away, I wanted to make a little Met Gala series and take a walk down memory to post about my favourite looks from the past Met Gala themes, but as well talk about the current theme, everything you need to know, and my expectations of what I would like to see as well as my post Met Gala thoughts is what you can expect from me!

This is my first time writing my thoughts down in a blog on the topic but every Met Gala I used to post my thoughts and favourite looks on Twitter. Some of my fondest memories of Met Gala's past was when I was in school, I would get together with my equally as invested friend the morning after the gala and we'd skip class go over and discuss every single look and after party looks one by one together.

If you are not familiar with the Met Gala, here is a touch of background for you. The Gala is the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual fundraising event. Each year, the Met Gala has a different theme that corresponds to the museum's Costume Institute exhibit. The theme is announced months in advance, and attendees are expected to dress in accordance with the theme of the utmost extravagance. Those in attendance are invited by Anna Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue, and have been selected due to their involvement or contribution to the fashion world. The gala is a major cultural event in my opinion and the custom made looks are pieces of fashion history.

This year the theme of the Met Gala is a tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld and it's titled Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. Fashion aside, perhaps the most exciting part of all is that Choupette, Lagerfeld's cat will be in attendance! The event should be no short of breathtaking, so here is everything you should know about the theme.

For those of you wondering, how much originality and diverse looks can you create when the whole theme is surrounding one person? In the past themes are really broad concepts, but truly, Karl Lagerfeld himself is a concept. There is a lot more to to this one person than you may think, he was a creative genius and fashion icon.

Karl Lagerfeld was a legendary fashion designer and creative director, was an icon in the fashion industry for over six decades, that's a lot of content to work with to begin with. The costume exhibit will feature over 100 of his designs, which just scratches the depth of his portfolio. Known for his sharp wit, iconic personal style, and unmatched creativity, Lagerfeld was a true visionary who revolutionized the fashion industry in countless ways.

Throughout his career, Lagerfeld worked with some of the biggest names in fashion, most famously devoted to Chanel, but he also wove his own line of beauty through Fendi, Chloe, Balmain and his own namesake brand. He was a master of many different styles, from classic Chanel tweed suits to edgy leather and studs, and was always pushing the boundaries of what was possible in fashion.

Lagerfeld was a true artist, who brought his own unique vision and perspective to everything he created. His designs were always innovative, bold, and daring, and he had a talent for combining unexpected elements in ways that made them feel fresh and new. But it was so much more than his designs, the shows he created were more than just fashion shows. He crafted worlds of imagination in the most impressive venues, where fashion comes to life, and you were transported into his vision. He is also the only designer to have presented two Haute Couture shows in the same fashion week. I am hoping the decor itself of the venue at the Met pays tribute to the various worlds of fashion he created in his shows.

In addition to his work as a designer, Lagerfeld was also an accomplished photographer, illustrator, and author. He was a true Renaissance man, with a talent for creating beauty in many different forms. He was reimagined so many elements of the Chanel brand, just one example is his talent for taking classic designs and giving them a modern twist like updating the iconic Chanel tweed suit by creating new silhouettes and adding unexpected elements like denim or leather.

Lagerfeld's influence on the fashion industry cannot be overstated. He was a true game-changer, who pushed the industry forward in ways that are still being felt today. He was an inspiration to countless designers, models, and fashion lovers around the world, who looked up to him as a symbol of creativity and innovation.

His designs and creations continue to inspire new generations of designers and fashion lovers, and his influence can be seen in the work of many of today's top designers and this is exactly what will be showcased in this Met Gala. In my opinion, there is endless room for interpretation of his style from his designs, shows, art, haute couture, how he incorporated technology into his shows, what his vision for the future may have been and so much more.

Karl Lagerfeld was a true creative genius and a fashion icon, whose impact on the industry will be felt for years to come. His memory will always be cherished by those who knew him, and his contributions to the world of fashion will never be forgotten.

With that said, I would love to know in the comments what you think of this year's theme? In my next article I will go over elements I would love to see and my expectations and predictions for the event!
